y10k asked: I actually thought that photo was looking south.. were there ever barns and as much open space north of the river?

Good question. I guessed north because the building just left of the smokestack looks like the top of Linton Hall. Looking a little closer, I think that’s Old Hort in the middle, too. Can anyone confirm details?

MSU did an amazing job in RecycleMania! We finished…

  • 1st in the Big Ten and 4th overall in the Gorilla Prize (1,015,341 pounds)
  • 2nd in the Big Ten and 82nd overall for Grand Champ (35.84% recycling rate)
  • 1st in the Big Ten and 69th overall in the Per Capita Classic (18.149 lbs/person)

Great job, everyone. GO GREEN!

MSU Community ReUse Days are an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and alumni to take an active role in helping develop sustainable solutions by dropping off unwanted household items to the Surplus Store.  All material collected is resold, reused or recycled and the proceeds from the sale of re-sellable items helps support our efforts to increase materials collected from campus and the community.
As a result of past Community ReUse Days, we’ve been able to expand recycling opportunities of colored glass (all colors accepted) at the Recycling Drop-off Center and implement a pilot polystyrene (Styrofoam) recycling program on campus.  We are currently looking into solutions for recycling alkaline batteries.

It’s probably too late to catch up to those ahead of us in the RecycleMania rankings, but we’re pretty much locked into 4th overall and 1st in the Big Ten for the Gorilla Prize. As long as we finished strong last week, we should also hit our goal of 1 million pounds.
Great job, Spartans!
